Sonora (SON) is another underserviced region in terms of energy and grid reliability. According to SPG Global, the Mexican government approved over $100 million in solar projects to meet that demand, carried through to Baja California Norte. Sonora, which borders Arizona and New Mexico, is considered the region with the most solar generation potential due to its geographic location, which benefits from more sun. However, the potential for pushback exists due to the recent political blowback against the Mexican Energy Market (MEM) per the federal government and Obrador’s administration.
